The full review
A faithful reconstruction of the Villa dei Papiri buried by Vesuvius in 79 AD, scaled to fit a Pacific Palisades hillside. The collection inside is Greek, Roman, and Etruscan only — about 44,000 objects, of which a few hundred are on view at any time. The setting genuinely earns the comparison to the Mediterranean.
