The MFA's permanent collection rivals the Met for American painting and the Asian collection rivals anything in the West (the Egyptian collection is in the same league as well). The 2010 Art of the Americas wing reorganized the American collection chronologically, and the result reads as the museum-as-textbook of US art history.
