About this museum

A small museum holding one of the country's best privately-assembled European painting collections — Degas bronzes, Goya, Rembrandt, Picasso — alongside a deep South and Southeast Asian sculpture wing. Often near-empty even on weekends. Read the full review →

The full review

The Norton Simon's collection is depth over breadth: the largest single collection of Degas bronzes in the world, a Rembrandt self-portrait, Picasso's Woman with a Book, plus several Zurbaráns and Goyas. The Asian collection in the lower level is comparable to the LACMA's. Pasadena traffic is the only thing keeping the museum from being on every LA must-do list.
